Read safe animal-source gate and complete original fictional texts before teaching. Each day totals 3 + 4 + 5 + 7 + 4 + 2 = 25 minutes. Three same-target routes are flexible access supports, not fixed learner styles; two worked swaps/day are optional extra examples. No animal is chased, lured, fed, touched, assumed present or named by guess. A verified real photograph is PHOTO evidence of depicted features, not a local live encounter. A live observation is possible only with safe school approval and an animal genuinely appearing. If neither genuine source exists, write REAL OBSERVATION NOT AVAILABLE and use labelled fiction for source reasoning only. Neutral adult description stays ADULT REPORT, not direct child sight. Keep Days 85/90 fresh checks teacher-held until first independent response; keys are separate. Family bridges are optional.
Week 17 · Day 81 — Which source is an animal observation?
Goal: distinguish invented animal-like drawing, safe actual distant view and provenance-checked real photo. Proposed codes: AC9SFH01, AC9SFI01, AC9SFI05. Prepare: Model A and safe-source, optional approved real source, Card 81.
- Source label · 3 min. Mark A FICTIONAL MODEL. If a real approved source exists, record its type and date separately; otherwise REAL OBSERVATION NOT AVAILABLE.
- Read · 4 min. Read A completely; child names one mark in a drawing without inferring species, behaviour or a local animal.
- Model · 5 min. Teacher says, “I can describe this paper outline. A real view or verified photo would let me describe a depicted external feature.” Explain PHOTO is mediated, not live here.
- Child try · 7 min. Card 81 routes sort MODEL / DIRECT / PHOTO / ADULT REPORT source labels and ask one safe real-feature question.
- Check · 4 min. Offer “The drawn tail means this animal visited our school.” Child corrects drawing and location claim.
- Exit · 2 min. Save exact question and source type, not an invented sighting.
Week 17 · Day 82 — What does a close frame hide?
Goal: identify visible versus outside-frame marks without concluding a real feature is absent. Proposed codes: AC9SFH01, AC9SFI03, AC9SFI05. Prepare: frame-model, Model A/B, Card 82.
- Source · 3 min. Label A/B invented. No camera, child photo or animal is required.
- Compare · 4 min. Read WIDE then CLOSE; CLOSE shows body/ear-like marks but hides leg/tail-like marks outside borders.
- Model · 5 min. Teacher reads B's correction: “not shown in this frame” is different from “not part of the animal.” B is fictional dialogue, not actual class feedback.
- Child try · 7 min. Card 82 routes say one CLOSE fact, one WIDE fact and what a CLOSE-only viewer cannot know. Raised wide/close borders are models.
- Check · 4 min. Ask “May I call the cropped image a tailless real animal?” Child names crop and source limit.
- Exit · 2 min. Record source-bounded statement; no real external-feature credit from A.
Week 17 · Day 83 — Can a real photo be used responsibly?
Goal: distinguish a provenance-checked real PHOTO from an invented drawing and keep a depicted feature separate from local presence. The adult handles creator/rights checks. Proposed codes: AC9SFH01, AC9SFI01, AC9SFI03. Prepare: blank feature-record, source category cards; optional school-selected real animal image only after rights/provenance preflight, Card 83.
- Rights gate · 3 min. Adult checks creator/source/licence and date/viewed date, privacy and crop. If missing, do not show/use image; choose Model A.
- Read · 4 min. Identify PHOTO versus invented drawing. Name what part of an image is actually visible; do not infer behaviour, species or school locality.
- Model · 5 min. Teacher writes “PHOTO of depicted animal, source/date, visible feature, outside-crop UNKNOWN”. A caption alone is not proof of every feature.
- Child try · 7 min. Card 83 routes identify PHOTO or MODEL, record one actually visible depicted feature if a verified photo is available, and name a crop unknown. Otherwise describe one invented A mark as MODEL and leave real feature NOT OBSERVED. Adult adds provenance metadata.
- Check · 4 min. Offer “This photo means the animal is in our courtyard.” Child separates depicted animal source from location.
- Exit · 2 min. Keep photo provenance with private school record; no image copied into public pack.
Week 17 · Day 84 — Are two views two animals?
Goal: determine whether A/B records show same subject, distinct subjects or unknown, before comparing external features. Proposed codes: AC9SFU01, AC9SFI03, AC9SFI05. Prepare: source-compare, two optional genuine rights-cleared photo/source records or invented Model A two frames, Card 84.
- Identity gate · 3 min. Check source IDs/dates/rights for any real photos; do not call two crops two animals. Model A is one invented figure.
- Read · 4 min. Put WIDE/CLOSE A together and name SAME DRAWING, then show source ID fields needed for real pair.
- Model · 5 min. Teacher fills SAME SUBJECT / DISTINCT / UNKNOWN. If real identity cannot be established, say UNKNOWN rather than guessing from appearance.
- Child try · 7 min. Card 84 routes classify pair and name one visible mark/feature per actual source when supported; otherwise compare only drawings.
- Check · 4 min. “Two views means two animals” is corrected with source identity and crop limits.
- Exit · 2 min. Save cautious source-pair decision; grouping remains for later actual distinct subjects.
Week 17 · Day 85 — Fresh frame-and-source check
Goal: independently interpret a novel cropped model, bound its claim and name a genuine source needed. Proposed codes: AC9SFH01, AC9SFI01, AC9SFI03, AC9SFI05. Prepare: teacher-held Day 85 card, blank feature-record, Card 85 only after response.
- Preflight · 3 min. Teacher checks unseen case/read-aloud/broad tactile route; no real animal is represented as present.
- Prompt · 4 min. Give complete source once with FICTIONAL label.
- Think · 5 min. Allow independent response time; neutral reread is logged, no answer cue.
- First independent response · 7 min. Child identifies shown versus cropped marks, source type, one unknown and safe next source; save exact wording/support before feedback.
- Bound · 4 min. Ask what safe approved actual distant view or verified PHOTO would establish a depicted external feature. Paper-only stays REAL OBSERVATION NOT AVAILABLE.
- Close · 2 min. Use separate key for next teaching move; practice Card 85 can follow later.
Week 18 · Day 86 — Look from a safe shared-place boundary
Goal: attempt a safe genuine animal view only if approved and an animal actually appears; record not-seen honestly. Proposed codes: AC9SFH01, AC9SFI02, AC9SFI03. Prepare: local outdoor/window permission and route check, safe-source, Model A fallback, Card 86.
- Site gate · 3 min. Adult checks school permission, weather/heat/access, boundary and stop signal; no chasing/feed/touch. If unsafe, stay inside and mark live view NOT OBSERVED.
- Question · 4 min. Ask what visible external feature a distant real view could show. Do not promise an animal appears.
- Observe · 5 min. From permitted place, quietly look if welcome. If an animal genuinely appears, note local date/time/view/access; if none, write NOT SEEN TODAY. No photograph needed.
- Child record · 7 min. Card 86 routes record one actually visible feature or NOT SEEN TODAY, with DIRECT/ADULT REPORT and exact prompt. A teacher-supplied verified PHOTO is separately labelled, not a live visit.
- Check · 4 min. Ask whether an invented route drawing or paper A fills a missing real sighting. Child names source boundary.
- Exit · 2 min. Return via approved route; hazard/animal care stays with adult school procedure.
Week 18 · Day 87 — Describe only the external feature seen
Goal: make one precise source-bounded external-feature description without species or behaviour inference. Proposed codes: AC9SFU01, AC9SFI02, AC9SFI03. Prepare: genuine approved Day 86 record or school-approved rights-cleared real animal PHOTO if available, feature-record, Card 87.
- Source gate · 3 min. Confirm actual animal/view/date or verified PHOTO/provenance. If neither, MODEL ONLY and real feature NOT OBSERVED.
- Notice · 4 min. Re-read exact visible external feature; do not name species, sex, mood, habitat or reason for presence from appearance.
- Model · 5 min. Teacher distinguishes “this source shows a long visible tail” if actually supported from “this animal always has …” or “it lives here”.
- Child try · 7 min. Card 87 routes draw/point/dictate/AAC one exact externally visible feature, source/access and one hidden/unknown area. If only A, describe invented marks with MODEL.
- Check · 4 min. Offer “The picture shows a wing-like mark so this animal can fly.” Child separates appearance from unobserved behaviour.
- Exit · 2 min. Save precise claim and unknown, no invented species ID.
Week 18 · Day 88 — Group two distinct genuine animal sources
Goal: build a tentative rule from a visible external feature on two verified distinct real animal subjects, or label a drawing-only group. Proposed codes: AC9SFU01, AC9SFI02, AC9SFI03. Prepare: two approved distinct safe live/photo animal source records if available, Model C, two-animal, Card 88.
- Pair gate · 3 min. Confirm two distinct real subjects with separate source/date/view/access and photo rights if relevant. Two views of one subject or uncertain IDs mean grouping NOT OBSERVED.
- Read · 4 min. Name an actually visible external feature in each real source; if unavailable, read invented C marks as drawings only.
- Model · 5 min. Teacher groups C drawings by long/short/not-shown side marks and explicitly says this is paper grouping, not animal classification.
- Child try · 7 min. Card 88 routes state one child-chosen rule for actual two-source features if supported, place A/B and identify UNKNOWN. Two sources give first attempt, not universal rule.
- Check · 4 min. Ask whether “not shown in crop” proves a real animal lacks that feature. Child keeps hidden unknown.
- Exit · 2 min. Save actual partial grouping or MODEL ONLY; no Country/Place or ecological claim.
Week 18 · Day 89 — Share a claim that the source can carry
Goal: communicate source, one visible feature or rule, and one limit to a chosen private audience. Proposed codes: AC9SFH01, AC9SFI03, AC9SFI05. Prepare: explain-limit, actual dated private source if present or Model C, Card 89.
- Source/privacy · 3 min. Choose a genuine source with rights or C MODEL; teacher audience is enough. No child/place image is uploaded.
- Re-read · 4 min. Find exact view/crop/date/access and feature, or C's invented marks.
- Rehearse · 5 min. Teacher models “In this source I can see … ; I cannot tell … ; a safe next source could … .”
- Child share · 7 min. Card 89 routes speak, sign, AAC, point or direct adult voice for same bounded claim; record actual words/prompt.
- Feedback · 4 min. Record listener response only if it truly occurs; otherwise NO ACTUAL LISTENER RESPONSE. Revise claim from source review if needed.
- Exit · 2 min. Teacher notes next safe animal-source opportunity, not assumed learning gain.
Week 18 · Day 90 — Fresh two-source grouping check
Goal: independently test source identity, crop and grouping boundaries in a new model pair, then propose genuine evidence. Proposed codes: AC9SFU01, AC9SFI01, AC9SFI03, AC9SFI05. Prepare: teacher-held Day 90 card, blank two-animal, Card 90 only after first response.
- Preflight · 3 min. Teacher checks unseen case and exact access equivalents; no local species/source is invented.
- Prompt · 4 min. Give complete new paper case once with MODEL label.
- Think · 5 min. Independent time, neutral logged reread only.
- First independent response · 7 min. Child identifies same/distinct/unknown subjects, visible/cropped marks, a paper grouping rule and the real animal claim still missing; capture exact response/access first.
- Bound · 4 min. Ask for two genuine distinct safe sources with rights/date/access and one visible-feature rule; if absent, REAL OBSERVATION NOT AVAILABLE.
- Close · 2 min. Use separate key. One check cannot certify Foundation Science or local wildlife knowledge.
