Goal/codes: explore how orientation changes an intended visual reading of an invented composition; AC9AVAFD01. Prepare: turning page, or precise description; no child movement needed.
- Welcome · 3 min. “A page can be tall or wide. We can turn a picture in our mind even if we do not move the page.”
- Model · 4 min. Show the same three wide arches in a tall frame and a wide frame; the marks stay in order, but their surrounding page changes. No path arrows, counting lesson or fixed meaning is supplied.
- Together · 5 min. Ask child which frame gives the arches more space to the sides; demonstrate by reading dimensions/edges exactly or using an approved fixed tactile frame. A child may choose either for a reason.
- Child choice · 7 min. Child chooses a page direction for a fictional hill shelter, long toy boat, garden arch or own idea. They make/direct/describe a tall and a wide version using the same main mark, then choose one for their intended image. If no page is turned, describe both accurately.
- Notice · 4 min. Record orientation, visible position/space difference and reason. Do not score bodily rotation or motor control. If child says both work, ask which viewer purpose each could serve.
- Close · 2 min. “I chose a tall/wide page because ___.”
