Start: CIRCLE front / TRIANGLE behind, both in one frame. A model response places TRIANGLE front / CIRCLE behind, leaving both in the frame. The triangle’s outline continues across the overlap; a part of the circle edge is hidden by triangle. Exactly one layer relationship reverses. If a child deletes circle, changes frame, or says triangle is front while still visibly behind, ask them to compare “both remain?” and “whose edge is covered?” after saving the first response. The child may draw a different overlap location so long as the requested front relation holds.

Start: frame 1 WIDE: SQUARE + CIRCLE; frame 2 WIDE: SQUARE + CIRCLE. Model response: frame 1 WIDE: SQUARE + CIRCLE; frame 2 CLOSE: CIRCLE inside, SQUARE outside. The two tokens need not move on the paper scene; only frame 2’s boundary changes. If the child erases SQUARE, crops frame 1 as well, or includes SQUARE in frame 2’s close view, revisit the difference between outside a border and removed from the scene. The paper response does not show an actual camera crop.
Daily look-for and next move
Record child intention, actual card/drawing decision and adult support. Independent here means uncoached on the new check source; accessible presentation and a neutral mover are allowed. Do not use a guessed viewer reaction as the child’s evidence.

Decision use: A correct paper choice suggests a next storyboard opportunity. An incorrect or absent choice suggests a more concrete comparison, not a diagnostic label. Physical media making, media encounters, and actual willing audience sharing need their own accessible opportunities and observations later.
