Start: slot 1 TICK; slot 2 TICK under a fixed pentagon picture. Model response: slot 1 TICK; slot 2 QUIET. Only the second mark becomes empty/quiet; slot 1 and the picture hold. A child who changes slot 1 to quiet gives “quiet, tick,” which is a coherent different pattern but does not meet “one tick, then quiet.” Save first response before modelling another source.

Start: slot 1 TICK; slot 2 QUIET under a fixed hexagon picture. Model selection: C “tick, quiet”. A “tick, tick” gives two ticks; B “quiet, tick” reverses order. Accept spoken, pointed, signed or AAC selection of C with an accurate first/second explanation. This tests an exact no-audio caption choice, not hearing.
