Learner choices

Target/codes: choose straight or curved line between fixed dots and explain an intended fictional purpose; AC9AVAFD01, AC9AVAFC01. Prepare: A line paths, thick line cards, A.

  1. Welcome · 3 min. Introduce an invented paper visitor and two dots; nobody needs to move across a room.
  2. Model · 4 min. Draw straight and curved lines between the same endpoints. Trace each on paper; both reach the right dot.
  3. Try together · 5 min. Ask a child to point to or direct one line. Name what stayed (dots) and what changed (path).
  4. Child choice · 7 min. Child selects a line for a fictional garden path image and gives a possible reason. A tactile cord fixed to card or adult-directed marker is equivalent for planning.
  5. Notice · 4 min. Ask which line the child chose and how the paper shows it. Do not claim every viewer would follow it.
  6. Close · 2 min. Keep the child's line and purpose; tomorrow one line can look broader.
