Use a work by a named real maker only after a school educator checks the source, image/display rights, age suitability, access format and any cultural authority. A teacher may select a locally held work, an authorised exhibition resource, or an artist visit. The invented diagram cards in this pack cannot stand in for an artist or a community's artwork.
Record before the encounter: maker's preferred credit; work title or description; source link/location; permission or licence and permitted classroom use; who has cultural authority if relevant; date checked; accessible verbal/tactile description approved for this work; any consent/attribution limits. For First Nations art, do not presume that online visibility grants permission to copy, reinterpret a motif, or explain cultural meaning. Follow the maker/community's guidance and Creative Australia protocols. Do not require a child to identify with or speak for a culture.
During the encounter, ask “What can you notice?” and “What does the maker or authorised source tell us?” Keep child observation, source-stated context and unknowns separate. If no cleared work is available, hold AC9AVAFE01 encounter evidence and arrange one later. A generic printed card, the teacher's invented illustration, or a verbal placeholder cannot count. An authorised image encounter is also different from an actual meeting with a maker; record which occurred.
