Prepare: Two broad fixed-ready card forms per base; rubbing-workshop/master-plan; no crayon needed yet.
- Invite and choose · 3 min. Ask, “What might live under your paper: a pretend creature, a place or marks with no story?” Child chooses an art idea or keeps it private. Preview choose/place/finish.
- Model · 4 min. Show an adult bar-and-disc master. Name base and raised forms; lay top paper over it, then lift it. Say, “My shapes stay underneath. This drawing shows my plan; only this fixed card is my made master.” No rubbing result is supplied.
- Explore · 5 min. Child tries two broad placements without adhesion or describes them. Ask, “Together or apart? Which way will the bar point?” Adult returns to a blank base if the child wishes.
- Make/direct · 7 min. Child chooses their own arrangement and directs adult fixing or places locally approved forms. Adult confirms exact position before fixing. With no material, scribe positions and label MASTER PLAN. Child may choose a different composition from the adult model.
- Notice and next · 4 min. Child describes or indicates a chosen relation: “Disc above the bar,” or equivalent. Record exact choice, whose hands fixed it and planned/made status. Do not require shape naming or a story.
- Clear and close · 2 min. Return unused broad forms to adult storage. Keep made base/plan privately; preview rubbing without promising a result.
Look/listen for: a child-controlled arrangement and honest master status. If not observable, return to one form and one positional choice; no motor/neatness score.
