Teacher copy: This page may include teaching prompts or answer keys. Answer keys in this public library can be viewed by anyone. Give learners a clean prompt, use checks as formative evidence, and change a case locally when prior access matters.

Optional 25-minute Visual Arts sessions · development draft. Place alongside integrated blocks rather than adding a compulsory period. Read materials first. Adult preparation and trial happen before the learner session. Every session offers handling, exact adult direction and no-material plans; record actual stage/maker separately. Broad original classroom card only; no public/cultural-object rubbing. Six phases total 25 minutes. Check making may continue in a short follow-up; no timed completion requirement.

Week 17 · Day 81 · Build a secret-under-paper master

Goal/codes: Choose and compose broad raised forms for an original master. Partial AC9AVAFD01, AC9AVAFC01.

Prepare: Two broad fixed-ready card forms per base; rubbing-workshop/master-plan; no crayon needed yet.

  1. Invite and choose · 3 min. Ask, “What might live under your paper: a pretend creature, a place or marks with no story?” Child chooses an art idea or keeps it private. Preview choose/place/finish.
  2. Model · 4 min. Show an adult bar-and-disc master. Name base and raised forms; lay top paper over it, then lift it. Say, “My shapes stay underneath. This drawing shows my plan; only this fixed card is my made master.” No rubbing result is supplied.
  3. Explore · 5 min. Child tries two broad placements without adhesion or describes them. Ask, “Together or apart? Which way will the bar point?” Adult returns to a blank base if the child wishes.
  4. Make/direct · 7 min. Child chooses their own arrangement and directs adult fixing or places locally approved forms. Adult confirms exact position before fixing. With no material, scribe positions and label MASTER PLAN. Child may choose a different composition from the adult model.
  5. Notice and next · 4 min. Child describes or indicates a chosen relation: “Disc above the bar,” or equivalent. Record exact choice, whose hands fixed it and planned/made status. Do not require shape naming or a story.
  6. Clear and close · 2 min. Return unused broad forms to adult storage. Keep made base/plan privately; preview rubbing without promising a result.

Look/listen for: a child-controlled arrangement and honest master status. If not observable, return to one form and one positional choice; no motor/neatness score.

Week 17 · Day 82 · Make marks appear

Goal/codes: Explore a dry rubbing and choose marks from the actual result. Partial AC9AVAFD01, AC9AVAFC01.

Prepare: Adult-tested master, top paper, approved broad crayon/holder and stable table; complete drawing alternative ready.

  1. Invite and choose · 3 min. Offer their made master or an original ready classroom master. Ask whether to rub, direct the adult or plan/draw. Touching relief is optional.
  2. Model · 4 min. Adult places paper over a master and makes a short comfortable rubbing. Lift paper and describe actual marks neutrally. Say, “The crayon marked the top paper. The card did not give it ink. These marks are what happened today.” Do not invent success if the trial fails.
  3. Explore · 5 min. Child chooses an area and readable tool colour/contrast. Adult holds paper or rubs on exact direction. Stop if slipping, effort or texture makes it unsuitable; do not ask for harder pressure.
  4. Make/direct · 7 min. Child makes/directs one small rubbing or chooses drawn paper. Ask, “Which marks do you want to keep?” Incomplete marks may be part of the art; one further small try is optional. Record actual maker/tool/marks or DRAWN PAPER / PLAN ONLY.
  5. Notice and next · 4 min. Compare actual paper with actual master or exact live description. Ask what appeared and what remains uncertain. A missing crayon mark does not prove a raised feature was absent. Record what was accessible, not an assumed independent visual observation.
  6. Clear and close · 2 min. Adult stores tool and fixed master. Child chooses keep/recycle under school rules; preserve actual work/plan and process status.

Look/listen for: selected actual marks versus predictions. If result is not useful, choose drawn-paper art and keep physical rubbing NOT TRIED or the exact failed attempt.

Week 17 · Day 83 · Choose your rubbing patches

Goal/codes: Select parts of actual rubbing/drawn paper for a new art arrangement. Partial AC9AVAFD01, AC9AVAFC01.

Prepare: Saved actual rubbing or broad drawn-paper substitute; impression-choice and blank backing; adult-only preparation tools.

  1. Invite and choose · 3 min. Show the child's paper, not a promised result. Ask, “Which part would you like in your picture?” Creature/place/pattern meanings are theirs.
  2. Model · 4 min. Adult selects one patch of their own paper, leaves another aside, and places it loosely. Say, “My choice shows this part; the other marks still exist on my paper.” Selection does not reveal the whole hidden master.
  3. Explore · 5 min. Child indicates two broad areas to keep. Adult marks borders and prepares patches safely on exact direction. With no material, describe the chosen patches and note they are unmade.
  4. Make/direct · 7 min. Child tries side-by-side and partly overlapping positions, then chooses one or a new broad arrangement. Loose work counts as arranged; attachment is optional. Ask which mark remains visible after overlap.
  5. Notice and next · 4 min. Record visible patch, position and reason/demonstration. Distinguish source paper marks, marks now covered by another piece, and unknown unobserved areas.
  6. Clear and close · 2 min. Adult handles unused offcuts/tools. Store broad patches with backing; mark ARRANGED, NOT ATTACHED or PLAN ONLY.

Look/listen for: child selection and placement, not a required number of patches or geometrical vocabulary. Return to one patch on two possible positions if helpful.

Week 17 · Day 84 · Give the pieces a picture

Goal/codes: Assemble original paper art that communicates a child-chosen idea. Partial AC9AVAFD01, AC9AVAFC01.

Prepare: Broad saved rubbing/drawn patches, backing, optional approved adhesive; art-canvas; offline planner optional.

  1. Invite and choose · 3 min. Ask, “What is your picture becoming?” Creature, imagined place, abstract art and “still choosing” are valid. Offer a desk picture, private work or postcard form.
  2. Model · 4 min. Adult moves two own patches: “I imagine these as a tall visitor and a round moon.” Another maker may choose different meanings; no shape is a universal sign.
  3. Explore · 5 min. Child tries a new placement and which patch lies on top. Adult describes both arrangements exactly without declaring one prettier.
  4. Make/direct · 7 min. Child makes/directs a loose or attached collage or an exact plan. They may add one broad drawn mark or dictate a title. Attach only after confirmation. Adult follows chosen position/order, not an adult replacement idea.
  5. Notice and next · 4 min. Child explains/indicates a visible choice connected to intended meaning. Preserve first arrangement, final decision and support. No viewer yet means audience NOT OBSERVED.
  6. Clear and close · 2 min. Put tools away and keep work/private plan. Preview a new source tomorrow without a worked solution.

Look/listen for: art decision and relation to child intent. Abstract work needs no invented story; “I like them apart” can explain a visible choice.

Week 17 · Day 85 · Fresh Check Y: Hidden bands

Goal/codes: Develop an original plan from a new master source and distinguish plan from an observed rubbing. Partial AC9AVAFD01, AC9AVAFC01.

Prepare: Fresh check-y-bands and spare blank paper; separate teacher key/worked swaps hidden; new broad card forms only if approved.

  1. Invite and choose · 3 min. Offer response route. Say, “Today you get a new source. You choose your art. There is no prettiest answer.” Read source words neutrally.
  2. Recall · 4 min. Retrieve MASTER, RUBBING, COLLAGE using unrelated plain blank card/paper. Do not show Y marks or model their arrangement. A rubbing result is unknown until tried.
  3. Explore source · 5 min. Present Y's broad oval and two offset short horizontal bands. Read all source positions neutrally. Present first prompt alone; allow exact access and neutral repetition without proposing an answer.
  4. Capture · 7 min. Preserve first child-controlled responses: original composition, actual/planned process status and selected collage idea. Material making may continue in a short later session; no timed completion rule. Record directions/prompts/access/maker. Do not demonstrate the supplied source during first capture.
  5. Notice and next · 4 min. After capture ask what child wants to keep/try next. Retain first response. Review separate key later for evidence/next step, not a term grade. Missing making stays NOT TRIED.
  6. Clear and close · 2 min. Return tools and store fresh response privately. A worked Y-day swap comes only AFTER first check capture.

Look/listen for: new child-controlled art choice and exact status. A useful plan does not prove actual rubbing; an incomplete response is not an ability label.

Week 18 · Day 86 · A place feature and my art choice

Goal/codes: Distinguish supplied/observed feature from invented art decision in care-themed art. Partial AC9AVAFD01, AC9AVAFC01.

Prepare: Fictional Courtyard C place-source, art-canvas, saved rubbing/drawn paper; optional private approved dated observation.

  1. Invite and choose · 3 min. Read Courtyard C as fiction: path middle, growing patch each side, bench upper right. Ask, “Which feature would you like your picture to care about?” Child can choose a different invented place instead.
  2. Model · 4 min. Adult points to supplied path: “This is in our source.” Place a rubbing patch: “I chose this mark for my art; it is not a plant fact or real care action.” No species, condition, weather or history is inferred.
  3. Explore · 5 min. Child selects one source feature and one art material/mark. With a real locally approved source, record date/exact viewing source privately; otherwise use complete fiction route.
  4. Make/direct · 7 min. Child makes/directs two broad possibilities: e.g. room around a growing patch or a seat kept ready for someone. Invite their own care idea/question. Record source fact separately from invented relation and proposed care. Art does not authorize action.
  5. Notice and next · 4 min. Ask, “What came from the source? What did you choose?” Accept pointing/sign/AAC/description. Only actual dated observations are observations; Courtyard drawing stays fiction.
  6. Clear and close · 2 min. Store selected patches/source privately. Actual care, outdoor activity and Country/Place knowledge retain separate local gates.

Look/listen for: source/art distinction and chosen intent. If unclear, name one supplied feature and one invented mark in a different source before another attempt.

Week 18 · Day 87 · Make the care collage

Goal/codes: Assemble paper to communicate a chosen care idea with a reason. Partial AC9AVAFD01, AC9AVAFC01.

Prepare: Broad rubbing/drawn patches, approved backing/adhesive, place-source and established communication supports.

  1. Invite and choose · 3 min. Retrieve feature/care idea and choose abstract art, pretend place picture or private real-source response. No positive feeling about a place is imposed.
  2. Model · 4 min. Use unrelated invented book corner: source shelf, artist-chosen patch as shelf, empty room for returning a book. Explain art suggests an idea while real action may not happen.
  3. Explore · 5 min. Child chooses patch for their feature and a space/mark that helps the idea. Rotate/exchange by choice; no count, map-scale or universal-symbol assessment.
  4. Make/direct · 7 min. Child makes/directs loose/attached care collage. Add/dictate one short phrase such as “room to grow” or no text with an exact spoken/AAC explanation. Mark DRAWN PAPER if no rubbing. No name/address/real location/private detail is needed.
  5. Notice and next · 4 min. Ask how a visible choice supports the idea. Record actual arrangement, original phrase/meaning and support. A picture of a clear path does not prove someone cleared it.
  6. Clear and close · 2 min. Adult clears adhesive/offcuts. Keep made work/plan with source type and making record.

Look/listen for: child intention visible or explained through art. Try one broad patch plus one chosen space if a larger composition is not yet observable.

Week 18 · Day 88 · Choose how the work will be used

Goal/codes: Select keep, quiet display or postcard and adapt the art for that use. Partial AC9AVAFD01, AC9AVAFC01.

Prepare: art-canvas/making-record, broad postcard/display backing; no contact details or posting system.

  1. Invite and choose · 3 min. Offer “keep it for me,” “quiet desk display,” or “postcard for someone who wants it.” Child may pass on sharing. No fine handwriting required.
  2. Model · 4 min. Explain an actual display need: backing can keep loose patches together. Location remains a plan until agreed. An imagined recipient has not received a postcard.
  3. Explore · 5 min. Child tries title position or no title, attach/leave loose and landscape/portrait to suit use. Adult gives exact descriptions and checks directions.
  4. Make/direct · 7 min. Child makes/directs one adaptation. Adult confirms child permission; viewer/recipient and display place must also agree before sharing. Use fictional “willing reader” planning role if none available; no public upload/contacting people.
  5. Notice and next · 4 min. Record use, actual adaptation and permission/status. Private work still shows creation. Audience stays NOT OBSERVED until real sharing.
  6. Clear and close · 2 min. Keep work privately. Prepare optional quiet one-to-one viewer encounter tomorrow, or equally useful self-review.

Look/listen for: chosen use and art adaptation. A display pass is not an art failure; ask a smaller “keep loose or attach?” choice if needed.

Week 18 · Day 89 · What did a willing viewer notice?

Goal/codes: Describe an actual art response and choose revision/retention. Partial AC9AVAFD01, AC9AVAFC01; conditional AC9AVAFE01 / AC9AVAFP01.

Prepare: Child work/plan, willing adult/peer if available, optional authorised actual maker work, making-record.

  1. Invite and choose · 3 min. Ask whether to show quietly to available willing viewer or review privately. No public performance/positive feedback required. Confirm agreed scope.
  2. Encounter · 4 min. If locally prepared, show actual maker's original rubbing/collage and ask how/why that maker uses art. Record maker/date/actual purpose. Without authentic encounter keep E01 unobserved. A diagram is not a physical rubbing.
  3. Explore response · 5 min. Viewer describes what they notice without maker hints. Record exact words/pointing, including “cannot tell.” With no viewer, child describes own visible choice; label SELF-REVIEW.
  4. Make/direct · 7 min. Child revises placement/title/contrast or keeps art with reason. Willing recipient may receive private postcard with agreed consent; otherwise keep it. Record real sharing/receipt/maker, not invented approval.
  5. Notice and next · 4 min. Connect feedback/self-review to decision. Pass/no viewer is not failure. Do not infer place-care success, outdoor health benefit or community values from comments.
  6. Clear and close · 2 min. Store work/private response/status. Preview fresh Z without showing source or answers.

Look/listen for: reason tied to actual response or honest self-review. No real sharing means audience NOT OBSERVED. One original artwork encounter cannot establish community-wide arts importance.

Week 18 · Day 90 · Fresh Check Z: Shared shelf

Goal/codes: Create a new source-aware care art idea and choose truthful making/sharing status. Partial AC9AVAFD01, AC9AVAFC01.

Prepare: Fresh check-z-shelf, spare paper and broad rubbing/drawn patches; prior finished artwork and key hidden.

  1. Invite and choose · 3 min. Offer route and keep/display/postcard. Say, “This is a new invented shared room. Your picture can help us think about care; it cannot prove care happened.”
  2. Recall · 4 min. Retrieve SOURCE FEATURE / MY ART CHOICE / ACTUAL EVENT with unrelated invented doorway. Do not model Z shelf/table/tray source or solution.
  3. Explore source · 5 min. Read Z: shelf left, clear table middle, two broad trays right, no people/action shown. One prompt at a time with exact access; no supplied intended meaning.
  4. Capture · 7 min. Preserve first response: choose supplied feature, compose care collage idea/explain visible choice, select use, record actual/planned making and audience. Material continuation may be a short follow-up; no timed completion rule. No action/audience is fabricated.
  5. Notice and next · 4 min. After capture child indicates next making choice/question. Teacher reviews separate key and offers unrelated next example. No term grade or failed private work.
  6. Clear and close · 2 min. Return tools and store first response/source/support privately. Worked examples stay AFTER first check capture.

Look/listen for: new art choice, accurate source feature and bounded status. “Not secure” or “not yet observable” calls for another opportunity, not a diagnosis.
