Learner choices

Goal/codes: Select parts of actual rubbing/drawn paper for a new art arrangement. Partial AC9AVAFD01, AC9AVAFC01.

Prepare: Saved actual rubbing or broad drawn-paper substitute; impression-choice and blank backing; adult-only preparation tools.

  1. Invite and choose · 3 min. Show the child's paper, not a promised result. Ask, “Which part would you like in your picture?” Creature/place/pattern meanings are theirs.
  2. Model · 4 min. Adult selects one patch of their own paper, leaves another aside, and places it loosely. Say, “My choice shows this part; the other marks still exist on my paper.” Selection does not reveal the whole hidden master.
  3. Explore · 5 min. Child indicates two broad areas to keep. Adult marks borders and prepares patches safely on exact direction. With no material, describe the chosen patches and note they are unmade.
  4. Make/direct · 7 min. Child tries side-by-side and partly overlapping positions, then chooses one or a new broad arrangement. Loose work counts as arranged; attachment is optional. Ask which mark remains visible after overlap.
  5. Notice and next · 4 min. Record visible patch, position and reason/demonstration. Distinguish source paper marks, marks now covered by another piece, and unknown unobserved areas.
  6. Clear and close · 2 min. Adult handles unused offcuts/tools. Store broad patches with backing; mark ARRANGED, NOT ATTACHED or PLAN ONLY.

Look/listen for: child selection and placement, not a required number of patches or geometrical vocabulary. Return to one patch on two possible positions if helpful.
