A 250-minute, optional worked pathway into Unit 1, Ideas in the Modern World. Ten 25-minute lessons use the American Revolution, 1763–1783 as one QCAA-listed Unit 1 topic. A school chooses two Unit 1 topics and an aspect within each; it may choose another order. This pack is neither the whole 55-hour unit nor a universal first topic. It supplies source-handling practice and a small beginning of one selected topic, not school assessment instruments. Before using it as a topic sequence, the school must settle its Unit 1 and Unit 2 choices and the full 20:60:20 contextual/depth/concluding study balance.
Start in five minutes. Open ten lesson scripts, practice source cards, learner evidence page, daily route choices, two evidence swaps per day and printable aids. Optional cards I/J transfer source skills to the Industrial Revolution (another QCAA Unit 1 topic), without pretending to teach that whole topic. Keep the two new public checks for Days 5 and 10; use the worked teaching key after learners submit. The public check and key are accessible by URL, so neither is secure. Spoken prompts can be read aloud with a transcript; no recorded audio is claimed. Source and rights register, syllabus crosswalk and run-through give the boundaries.
Respect the people in the sources. Do not cast pupils as enslaved people, colonisers, soldiers or First Nations peoples; do not ask for personal identity or family-history disclosures. The printed excerpts are short and avoid derogatory language. Discuss exclusions and unequal rights as historical issues, not as a debate over a student's humanity. The US exemplar does not meet the QCAA course requirement to study Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives: the school must choose Unit 1 Topic 1 (Australian Frontier Wars) or Unit 2 Topic 1 (Empowerment of First Nations Australians), and must plan Asia engagement elsewhere across the course. Any Australian Frontier Wars teaching needs relevant First Nations-authored and local sources, place-specific protocols and school/community review; this pack does not invent their voices.
Use routes as choices, not labels. Every daily route asks for the same dated, sourced historical judgement. A learner may use a transcript, teacher reading, quiet print, paired evidence sorting, AAC, typing, drawing, or speaking. Record what support changed. Reading access and historical reasoning are considered separately. Never infer a preferred way of learning from diagnosis or identity.
