Prepare: Print a -10 to +10 line and -5 to +5 grid, or provide labelled tactile axes/digital accessible coordinate plane. Use the mathematical convention (x, y): x first across, y second up/down, positive right/up, negative left/down. The axes intersect at (0,0); points on an axis are not in a quadrant. A child may point, type, dictate, sign, use AAC, place a tactile marker or direct an adult. Record mathematical prompts separately from motor/visual access. Check learner familiarity with whole numbers, equal line intervals, left/right conventions and ordered pairs; do not infer an ability from fast chart reading.
