An elective Geography starter. Ten original 25-minute sessions give a teacher a careful first route into QCAA Geography General senior syllabus 2025 v1.3, Unit 1 Responding to risk and vulnerability in hazard zones, Topic 1 Natural hazard zones. This is 250 minutes (4 hours 10 minutes) of a 55-hour unit, not a complete topic, unit, year or formal assessment program. QCAA gives 55 notional hours for the unit; it does not give a separate number of hours for Topic 1. Geography is a selected senior subject, not a universal Year 11 requirement.
Teach it: Open ten timed scripts and the original fictional source cards. Give students the clean learner tasks; choose any of three same-target response routes per day. Daily extras supply two different life-domain swaps with worked guidance for every session. Days 5 and 10 use fresh public checks and a separate public worked teacher key. Four A4 SVG/PDF aids include full-word descriptions and tactile rebuild instructions. All maps, place names, counts and decisions in these practice cards are invented.
Claim boundary: The official Unit 1 natural-hazard case study requires one hazard affecting two real locations, one in a country that is less developed and one in a country that is more developed, using spatial technology, exposure/vulnerability data and a justified response. This invented-grid fortnight does not meet that case-study requirement. The separate ecological-hazard topic, remaining processes, authentic source analysis and school assessments remain to teach. QCAA mandates a five-hour local field study in Unit 3 Topic 2; this pack contains no field study and makes no fieldwork-completion claim. A teacher must use current local authorities for real warnings, safe routes and off-site activity. These model maps are never emergency instructions.
Access without labelling learners: Any student can switch between annotated map, manipulable full-word cell cards and structured spoken/AAC/dictated description while keeping the same spatial claim, source and limit. A scribe or read-aloud gives access; record support when interpreting independent reading or cartography. The SVGs use labels as well as colour and have text-only and tactile equivalents. PDFs have selectable text but are not tagged PDFs. No home address, family disaster experience, disability disclosure or local risk prediction is requested. Use examples from school access, clinics, transport, community spaces and working life without implying one person or place is inherently vulnerable.
The exact syllabus crosswalk, source and rights ledger, internal run-through and file receipt support review. The public checks and answer key are accessible by URL, so they are not secure exams. There has been no classroom pilot, field verification, real-place case-study validation, translation review, specialist access review, cultural review or measured learning impact.
