Ten original 25-minute starts for Unit 1: Moving bodies in the current QCAA Dance General senior syllabus 2025 v1.3, January 2026, printed pp 22–26. The Unit 1 Area of study asks: How does dance communicate meaning for different purposes and in different contexts? There is no “Topic 1” in this unit. These 250 minutes open a notional 55-hour unit. This is not a complete unit, a set dance technique, a repertory study or a school assessment instrument.
Start with the teacher scripts, original A–F lab cards, learner desk, three opt-in routes per day, two worked swaps per day, twenty life-context bridges and spoken/quiet prompts. Two fresh public formative checks G/H are in student checks, with a separate worked teacher key. Six original A4 diagram aids and two new check sheets come as SVG and searchable PDF, with exact text and tactile build directions. A short original four-count click is optional; counting, printed beats or silent finger taps do the same job.
Every day offers self-chosen small-range movement, directing paper markers, and notation/analysis. The common target is a specific, justified choreographic choice about purpose, space, time, dynamics, relationship or structure. A learner may change route without explanation. Movement, public performance, touch, filming, disclosure about one’s body or life, and peer comparison are not required. A paper route can demonstrate choreographic reasoning; it cannot demonstrate physical technique, control or expressive performance. The school must provide appropriate later opportunities and accommodations for those objectives.
For any movement route, a qualified local teacher checks the space/floor and leads a suitable warm-up and cool-down, offers manageable range and a stop/observe/reset option, and follows the learner’s access and care plan. These cards prescribe no jumps, lifts, floor work, partner contact, fast turns or endurance work. They are not a universal safety guarantee or medical advice. A token on a table is a complete route for these opening reasoning tasks.
The curriculum crosswalk, source pathway and source/rights ledger state the held work: QCAA expects experience of contemporary dance and at least one other genre/style, historical and cultural origins, authentic live or recorded work and voices including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, Asia–Pacific and other international artists, plus development of technical and expressive skill. Our neutral original motif cannot supply those experiences. Schools choose licensed, culturally authorised repertoire and a valid progression through the full unit. The desk QA records simulated teacher/learner/assessor use, not a classroom pilot or QCAA endorsement.
