Goal: identify what a caption labels and what it does not establish. Proposed codes: AC9EFLA07, AC9EFLY01, AC9EFLY05, AC9EFLY10, AC9EFLY12. Prepare: source A, Card 131, two safe paper/fabric samples or described equivalents.

Sound and print · 3 min. With print hidden, say /c/ /a/ /p/ for an oral blend; then shuffle familiar cap, cup, mat without pictures. Child attempts only taught items, then sees the chosen object. Log oral and print separately.
Listen · 4 min. Read adult source A aloud. Show or describe paper/fabric pair with aligned near ends; do not announce a roof-use conclusion.
Model · 5 min. Point to object, picture and adult-read label separately. Say “smooth paper” names this observed piece; “best roof” was not tested.
Child try · 7 min. Child chooses one of three Card 131 invented pairs, points/uses AAC to give a source-backed label and places an untested idea in the separate “wonder” box.
Check · 4 min. Ask what a picture alone cannot prove about touch. Accept “we need to touch/describe it” under safe access; do not require sensory contact.
Exit · 2 min. Child identifies one word/image contribution. If fact and proposed use merge, use two trays tomorrow.

Week 27 · Day 132 — Pictures and words give different clues

Goal: compare image and caption information without inferring an unobserved property. Proposed codes: AC9EFLA07, AC9EFLY05, AC9EFLY04. Prepare: Card 132, source B, paper tube drawings.

Print retrieve · 3 min. Offer A cap is on a mat. only at taught point; child points to graphemes before seeing picture.
Listen · 4 min. Read source B; pause before its last sentence and ask if the drawing says which tube is heavier.
Model · 5 min. Draw a tall narrow tube and short broad tube. Say image/caption show shape, while mass needs a separate direct comparison; “tall” is not “heavy.”
Child try · 7 min. Choose one of three pictured object sets; child states one visible feature, one adult-caption detail and one unknown by pointing, sign, AAC or words.
Check · 4 min. Reveal the source's proposed balance test. Child classifies it as a next test, not a completed finding.
Exit · 2 min. Ask “What does this caption add?” If only colour is named despite no colour word, reread exact caption.

Week 27 · Day 133 — One source, one bounded claim

Goal: report one property of a specific pair, preserving the comparison reference. Proposed codes: AC9EFLY01, AC9EFLY05, AC9EFLY07. Prepare: Card 133, source A, two aligned strips and fact/wonder mat.

Print retrieve · 3 min. Read known map, mat, red at the child's taught point with no object clue; adult supplies untaught print.
Model · 4 min. Show source A's longer paper in this pair. Say “all paper is longer” changes the meaning and lacks evidence.
Guide · 5 min. Children align strip ends and describe only the current pair; adult describes for nonvisual route. Compare “this paper strip is longer” with “paper is always longer.”
Child report · 7 min. Child picks maker, book or costume display route and reports one observation plus its named reference to a chosen listener/mode; record if report actually went by voice to a peer.
Source check · 4 min. Listener offers a counterexample pair or asks whether the material alone fixes length. Child may revise from “all” to “this pair.” Keep first response.
Exit · 2 min. Child completes “I know this pair ; I have not tested .” If source missing, revisit one labelled pair.

Week 27 · Day 134 — Make an accurate information label

Goal: create and share-edit a short label based on one observed feature. Proposed codes: AC9EFLA07, AC9EFLY06, AC9EFLY12, AC9EFLY13. Prepare: Card 134, mat, one safe familiar object or fictional card.

Print retrieve · 3 min. Child reads taught red, cap, cup independently if secured; adult reads the rich label vocabulary.
Model · 4 min. Adult labels a drawn red cup “red cup”; point to how the image shows cup shape and word “red” specifies colour. Do not silently add its weight or purpose.
Guide · 5 min. Pairs choose one safe object/drawing and state an observable feature. Offer a neutral blank route if colour or texture access differs.
Create · 7 min. Child makes a picture and short label through writing, tiles, AAC selection or child-directed scribing. Save first version and mark what child independently spelled.
Shared edit · 4 min. Listener points to one mismatch or missing object reference; child directs a change to word or picture and rereads/retells revised label.
Exit · 2 min. Child names the actual observation behind the label. Keep Day 135 source hidden.

Week 27 · Day 135 — Fresh information source check

Goal: distinguish image/label, direct observation and untested idea on a new source. Proposed codes: AC9EFLA07, AC9EFLY05, AC9EFLY12, AC9EFLY06. Prepare: teacher-held Day 135 check, private record; practice Card 135 only afterward.

Welcome · 3 min. Explain new paper objects help choose next practice; no real class object or personal disclosure is required.
Warm print · 4 min. Briefly revisit known cap, mat; do not display scored print or source.
Fresh listen/view · 5 min. Read unseen information card aloud and give agreed image/tactile description without hinting answer.
Independent response · 7 min. Child identifies named object, one property supported by image or adult label, and one question needing a test; show fresh CVC cards only at taught point. Save first words/mode.
Check · 4 min. Ask child to make/revise one short source-grounded label; record child word choices and scribe help separately.

Week 28 · Day 136 — Permission comes before a question

Goal: hear a fictional interview's question and response, with opt-out respected. Proposed codes: AC9EFLY02, AC9EFLY05, AC9EFLY07. Prepare: source C, Card 136, pass/yes/repeat cards.

Print retrieve · 3 min. Child reads taught I can see a map. or selected taught words; adult reads the interview paragraph.
Listen · 4 min. Perform source C with two paper voices. Show the “you can pass” line as a real choice for any optional class question.
Model · 5 min. Separate permission, neutral question, exact reply, confirmation. Say an invented respondent's choice belongs to this one paper model.
Child try · 7 min. Child chooses label-shape, book marker or maker-display fictional scenario and asks a neutral object question to an adult acting a source; child may pass or ask for repeat.
Check · 4 min. Adult gives one fictional response; child points to the chosen image and says what this source answered, without changing “wide” to “red.”
Exit · 2 min. Child shows how someone could decline. If permission step was skipped, model it again with a new fictional card.

Week 28 · Day 137 — Listen for choice and reason

Goal: report a respondent's exact choice and reason, retaining source and scope. Proposed codes: AC9EFLY02, AC9EFLY05, AC9EFLY07. Prepare: Card 137, fictional Sol/Ari scripts and two choice images.

Print retrieve · 3 min. Read A map is on a mat. only if taught; do not use the map image to guess a word.
Model · 4 min. Read Sol's answer from Materials and restate: “Sol chose the raised dot for this paper marker because Sol said the edge can be felt.” Do not infer diagnosis.
Guide · 5 min. Compare a faithful report with “everyone needs dots.” Invite child to point to the exact source words that prevent that leap; adult rereads if needed.
Child report · 7 min. Child chooses one of three fictional respondent contexts, listens, then reports choice and reason via speech, AAC, sign or child-directed scribe to a chosen listener.
Confirmation · 4 min. Adult acts respondent and corrects a deliberately altered detail; child revises and saves first/revised version.
Exit · 2 min. Ask whose answer was reported. If child drops source, add “Sol said…” or a source icon tomorrow.

Week 28 · Day 138 — Make a question someone can answer

Goal: pose a neutral object/display question with accessible response choices and a pass route. Proposed codes: AC9EFLY02, AC9EFLY07, AC9EFLY06. Prepare: Card 138, three large shape cards, fact/question mat.

Print retrieve · 3 min. Offer red, cup, ten at taught point; keep interview terms adult-read.
Model · 4 min. Ask an invented source, “For this paper board, which shape label would you choose: dot, stripe or square? You may pass.” Contrast with a leading “You like my stripe, don't you?”
Guide · 5 min. Children sort possible replies: named shape, “pass,” and a private family story. Only the first two are needed; nobody is pressed for the third.
Child create · 7 min. Child chooses one of book, maker or paper-stage display contexts and composes a neutral, answerable question using voice, sign, AAC or scribe; include pass/repeat.
Listener test · 4 min. Adult roleplay chooses one item or passes. Child listens, checks whether the question yielded an answer to the stated task, and directs one wording edit if needed.
Exit · 2 min. Child states what would be recorded: source's object choice or pass, never name/reason unless willingly given and locally allowed.

Week 28 · Day 139 — Report only what was answered

Goal: build a short source-attributed report and shared-edit it after confirmation. Proposed codes: AC9EFLY05, AC9EFLY06, AC9EFLY07, AC9EFLA07. Prepare: Card 139, source C, blank response tokens.

Print retrieve · 3 min. Child blends taught map, cap, sit in mixed order; adult reads all richer interview words.
Model · 4 min. Put source/choice/reason tokens under Iva's answer. Say “Iva chose a wide stripe for the model”; “all people chose stripe” is unsupported.
Guide · 5 min. With a fictional Sol or Ari reply, fill three tokens; listen once more to verify whether a reason was stated.
Child report · 7 min. Child chooses a fictional respondent, produces a short report/drawing/label for a selected listener and records source plus exact choice. Include reason only if actually heard.
Shared edit · 4 min. Roleplayed respondent checks report and supplies one correction; child directs change, rereads/retells and keeps both versions.
Exit · 2 min. Ask what cannot be concluded about actual classmates. Keep Day 140 response unseen.

Week 28 · Day 140 — Fresh question and faithful report check

Goal: respond to an unseen fictional source, ask one fair follow-up and report bounded meaning. Proposed codes: AC9EFLY02, AC9EFLY05, AC9EFLY07, AC9EFLY12, AC9EFLY13. Prepare: teacher-held Day 140 check, correct private print route, Card 140 after.

Welcome · 3 min. Explain new fictional source and pass/repeat choices; no interview with a real peer is required.
Fresh listen · 5 min. Adult reads unseen exchange once, repeating through agreed access route; do not paraphrase the scored answer.
Held-out print · 5 min. Privately show new CVC words at taught point and dictate one with print hidden; record sound, letter and access separately.
Independent report · 7 min. Child gives source, exact object choice and stated reason, poses one neutral follow-up, and names one unsupported generalisation. Save first response.
Confirm/edit · 3 min. Adult as respondent checks child's report; child can revise after first record. Record actual peer voice separately if later observed.
Close · 2 min. Choose next teaching from exact key. Day 140 practice begins only after check.

The Week 27 and Week 28 guides extend these specific English skills into science/HASS. Do not score the integrated discussion as another independent held-out attempt.
